Get My Permit 15.5 to 17.5 Years Old
Step One: Complete the Online Drivers Education Course After Reaching 15 Years of Age
- You may take and complete your Drivers Education course anytime after reaching 15 years of age. The online course includes 30 hours of instruction focusing on rules of the road and safe driving practices.
- We recommend completing the course about one week before you plan on attempting the DMV written permit test. That will aid in retaining the material for the test and doing well on it.
- If you take the written test at the DMV when you are 15½ years old exactly, you will be on track to get your driver’s license on, or soon after, your 16th birthday. But there is no hurry. Nowadays many students commonly wait until they are older and feel more confident before getting their license.
- The DL400C Driver’s Education completion certificate is a pink 5½” by 8½” DMV form. You will receive this form after you complete the online course. Bakkers Driving School mails the certificate within 24 hours of the first business day after completion. Our school will not delay. We are dedicated to prompt quick delivery of that certificate. You also have the option of picking up your certificate from our office if time is of the essence. Duplicate certificates are free.
- Note that the DMV only accepts paper certificates. DMV will not accept a digital copy of certificates.
- Remember your certificate is valid for one year. So there is no need to finish too far in advance of when you intend to attempt your permit test.
Step Two: Study Before Going to the DMV and Prevent Their High 50% Fail Rate
- Take the written test in person at DMV or on their website from home. See the link on our home page
- Also, the DMV has genuine Class C permit test questions with answers on their website
- Consider the DMV website online test instead of the in-person one at the DMV, But still study hard
- Most study helps even for pay are outdated and a waste of time. Students tell us they are a passing the test by studying the “Genie App” CA DMV written test (not associated with our school) see a link on our website
- https://driving-tests.org/dmv-genie/
Step Three: DMV Now Requires That You Pre-Apply for the Permit Test on Their Website
- Go to eDLapp.DMV.ca.gov to upload your documents and print the “confirmation receipt” after doing so (preferably in color).
- No appointment is needed.
- Check the DMV website to verify the hours when the DMV you are going to will be open.
- Like all state offices, the shortest wait times are for the mid-morning, mid-week hours.
- Another way to upload your documents to DMV is to follow this link
- After you upload your documents you will get a confirmation number. Print that page and bring it with you to the DMV.
Step Four: Bring Documents Acceptable to the DMV
- Bring your confirmation receipt and all the original documents that you uploaded to the DMV website with you to the DMV. Have the confirmation receipt visible as you enter the DMV so their staff can guide you.
- Generally, a US birth certificate, social security card, and 2 proofs of residency are required.
- Go to DMV.ca.gov and you will see various links on exactly what documents are acceptable.
- Bringing part of your documents but not all will be a wasted trip
- Bring the application fee; payable by cash, check, credit or debit card.
- Add your teenager to the family auto insurance policy.
Avoid The High 50% Fail Rate On The Written Test
Avoid The 38% Fail Rate On The Drive Test
- Please go to BakkersDrivingSchool.com for study material that can be found about halfway down the page to help achieve a first-time pass.
- Go to DMV.ca.gov
- Go to the search box and type: sample tests (choose class C)
- There are sample class “C” tests (50 questions total). Take them over and over until you get 100% all the way through.
- Obtain a California Driver’s Handbook online or usually near the front door of a DMV office. Read the book cover to cover over and over. The test for the most part is based on the DMV Handbook. But they may take a question from what might seem to be a low level of importance. So please read the entire handbook.
- There are only two apps that are up-to-date and accurate for the current DMV test questions, The Genie App and Cheat Sheets. Most online apps even the pricey ones and other internet materials are outdated and useless.
- Students have reported to us that it is better to choose the paper test. The online test will not let you go back and review your questions. We have learned the paper test has a much higher passing rate, although DMV offices have different rules and may not offer this on a first try.
- Study the night before you go. Fall asleep immediately after studying. If you study and do schoolwork, use your phone, or social media, or watch TV, then you clutter your mind and lose part of the value of studying. Wake up and go straight to DMV on Tuesday or Thursday just after 8 am when DMV will not be so crowded normally, with less noise, less waiting, and nothing to interfere with the retention of the material you worked so hard on.
- Nothing replaces study time.
Avoid The 38% Fail Rate On The Drive Test
- Scheduling a driving test between 9 AM and 10 AM on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is quieter, and has less traffic on the roads, giving the student a significant advantage
- Once you are eligible and your parents feel you are ready, schedule your driving test online from the DMV website “Appointments.” Print a copy of your appointment with its confirmation number to take with you when you arrive at the DMV for the test. If the DMV computer loses your appointment a printout with the confirmation number on it should be presented to the check-in staff at DMV.
- Then schedule your final third 2-hour driving lesson a few days before your driving test or take an extra lesson. We have been doing this ay for 20 years +. We have experienced a 90% passing rate doing it this way Self-schedule online from our website 24/7 at BakkersDrivingSchool.com or call us Monday through Friday 10 am to 6 pm at 858-484-5832.
- When under 18 years old if you fail the driving test after taking your 6 hours with Bakkers Driving School, we provide a FREE lesson before each next retry on the driving test. We stand behind our product. Our passing rate is much better than average because of our competent prep right before the test. A competent teaching staff is important to prepare for any hard test.
