Getting a learners permit when under 18 years old
First, you are required to take a "DMV approved" online Driver's Education Course or a 30-hour live classroom course to receive a certificate of completion.
From there you will need to go to the DMV, with proof of residency/Identity to pass a written test in order to finally receive a permit
Online Driver's Education (Available anywhere in California)
Bakker's Driving School is a leading provider of online Driver’s Ed courses. Once you have completed the course and have received your online Driver's Ed Completion Certificate, please study DMV's sample permit tests available from the DMV website. This study is available on your cell phone while waiting at DMV. The permit written test has an estimated 50% passing rate. This extra study while waiting for your number to be called at the DMV office can make the difference of a first try pass. Remember you have to wait 8 days between each try on the written test. Students report to us, requesting a written test rather than a computer test has a higher success rate.

- Take your first 2-hour lesson immediately to validate your Learner's Permit.
- Take your second lesson within about a month or two for time to practice with mom and dad. Then the instructor will help you refine and polish your skills. However some students find it more useful if they take a second lesson right away, to help them increase their skill level, to be prepared to drive with mom and dad.
- Take your third lesson a few days before your drive test. Like preparing for any hard test, preparation right before you go has greatly increased the passing rates of our students.
- Students often choose to take extra lessons with one of the instructors they felt they had the best experinece with, to increase their defensive driving ability and because sometimes mom and dad don't always have the time with everyones busy schedules.
It is crucial that you are well-prepared and have been instructed properly before heading to the DMV to take your driving test, and taking driving lessons with Bakkers can give you the best chance of success.
