Pre-apply on the DMV website (NOW REQUIRED BY DMV)

- Print the “confirmation receipt” after uploading your documents, preferably in color
- No appointment needed
- Check the DMV website to make sure the DMV you are going to is now open
- Go to DMV when the line is not so long, so as not to get turned away,
- Mid-week mid-morning like all state offices tends to have the shortest lines
- Make your “confirmation receipt” visible as you stand in line while they are filtering everyone
- The more over crowded the line is, the more the line looks like people are NOT observing social distancing, the more people DMV staff will filter out of the line at that moment

- Once you upload your documents you will get a confirmation number. (Please Print out in color)
- Once you arrive at DMV as a walk in you can show the confirmation number Print out to get in.
- Please follow DMV guidelines on the above link exactly so you don't waste a trip to DMV. If one item is unacceptable they will not let you move forward with the application process and you have to return home.
- Remember to bring original or certified copy of Birth Certifiacte. DMV won't accept photo copies.
- You must be at least 15 and 1/2 to the day or older
- Bring your Social Security Card. A photocopy will not be accepted.
- Pass the 46 question written test at DMV.
(You will need to answer at least 38 of them correctly in order to pass the test) Many sudents are saying the paper test has a higher passing rate. However the rules when you are allowed take the paper test many vary somewhat. Consider gently nudging for the paper test rather than the computer test if you that seems best to you. - DMV will issue you a learner's permit before you leave the DMV office if you pass. But you may NOT drive from the DMV office. For safety DMV requires you to begin your professional behind the wheel lessons before driving with mom and dad.

- Schedule your driving lessons online from our website at our "Behind the Wheel Scheduling" page. Your username and password from the Online Driver's Ed will not transfer so please register and create a new username and passwor seperately for each of your siblings driving lessons.
- Call your auto insurance company and add your teenager to the family policy before beginning to drive with them.
Take With To DMV for the Drive Test
- Have your permit signed off by a parent confirming that you have completed the additional driving practice and that they feel you are ready for a drive test.
- Complete your 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving lessons and receive your Driver Training Completion Certificate
(Orange/Gold colored certificate DL 400 D) YOU MUST BRING WITH YOU TO THE DMV FOR THE DRIVE TEST. - Schedule a drive test at DMV website using the link below or call DMV at 800-777-0103 with often a one hour hold.
DMV Appointment Scheduling System - Bring the family car to DMV for your drive test appointment
(Be at the drive-test appointment window 15 minutes early) THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT LATE ARRIVALS. - Proof of Insurance for the family car with current expiration dates
- Registration for the family car with current expiration dates

- DMV will issue you a temporary driver's license right then and there before you leave the DMV office.
